Crossing Clearance Table - outside-to-outside clearance at every pipe crossing

Every plan crossing between storm / sanitary (Pipe Networks) and water / force main (Pressure Networks), and between gravity networks, with the vertical clearance outside of pipe to outside of pipe at the crossing, in a center-justified table + CSV. Under the minimum, overlapping, or water below sewer = flagged. Update rewrites the table in place after a redesign.

Gravity pipe (storm)   Pressure pipe (water)   Crossing / flag

What it does

  • Finds every plan intersection between the pipe pairs you tick (gravity x gravity across networks, gravity x pressure, pressure x pressure); curved pressure mains are sampled along the arc.
  • Measures outside to outside: centerline elevations interpolated at the crossing, minus / plus half the outside size (OuterHeight, outer diameter).
  • Flags UNDER MIN against the general minimum, or the water x sanitary / force main minimum; CONFLICT when the pipes overlap; WATER BELOW SEWER.
  • Table + CSV: pipe A, station on A, pipe B, location, upper (bottom el), lower (top el), clearance, minimum, flag; center-justified; tagged for Update.

Notes

  • Classification is by name tokens (whole words) on the network name, then the pipe name - set them in the dialog.
  • Update re-reads the networks with each table's own scope and minimums; a current table is left untouched.
  • Draft work product: the tool compares against the minimums you enter. Settings under %APPDATA%\VDC\XingTable\ (override VDC_XINGTABLE_SETTINGS). Civil 3D only.

When to use it

  • A utility plan or profile set is going out and the crossing clearances need to be shown or checked.
  • A water main was lowered or a storm line re-profiled and the crossing table has to follow.

How to run it

  1. Run VDCXINGTABLE. Tick the pairs to check, set the minimums, check the name tokens match your network names.
  2. OK, then Extents or Window (two corners).
  3. Pick the table's upper-left corner (Enter skips the table; the CSV is still written).
  4. Read the flags: UNDER MIN, CONFLICT (the pipes overlap), WATER BELOW SEWER. After a redesign, run again with Update.

Options

  • Pairs: gravity x gravity, gravity x pressure, pressure x pressure (off by default).
  • Minimums: a general minimum (18 in) and a water x sanitary / force main minimum (18 in).
  • Only flagged: list only the crossings that are under the minimum, in conflict or water below sewer.
  • Update: re-reads the networks with the scope and minimums each table was built with; position, widths and style stay.

Watch out for

  • Pipes of one network that meet at a structure or fitting are junctions, not crossings - they are left out on purpose.
  • The classification is by name: a storm network called 'Network 1' with pipes 'Pipe - (3)' reads as 'other gravity' and takes the general minimum. Add your tokens.
  • Clearance is computed from the model: a pipe drawn at the wrong invert gives a wrong clearance. The table is draft work product for the engineer of record.
