Phasing (per-phase layouts, layer states, quantities)

Phasing without redrawing the set: entities carry their phase as XData (by pick or by layer); Generate makes a layer state and a layout per phase with the other phases screened gray or frozen, and a quantity tally per phase. Plain AutoCAD.

What it does

  • Assign by pick (phase + selection) or by layer (Map-to-phase column); the grid doubles as the census of every layer's stamps.
  • Membership: mapped layer → that phase; else the sole phase of its entities; else shared (never screened). Mixed layers flagged.
  • Generate: a layer state per phase (others screened gray + transparent, or frozen) and a layout per phase copied from the template with viewport overrides / freezes; re-run replaces.
  • Quantities per phase / layer: LF (curves), SF (closed polylines + hatches), EA (blocks) → CSV + drawing table.

Watch for

  • Screening is per LAYER, split or map a layer that carries two phases.
  • The phase layout is a snapshot copy of the template; regenerate after the template changes.
  • Clear removes stamps only. Settings %APPDATA%\VDC\Phasing\settings.json.

When to use it

  • Phase 1 / Phase 2 plan sheets from one model without copying and freezing by hand.
  • A per-phase quantity split for the estimate or the bond.

How to run it

  1. Run VDCPHASING - type the phases in order; pick a mode.
  2. Assign: by pick (choose the phase, select the entities) or by layer (fill the Map-to-phase column; OK stamps everything on those layers).
  3. Generate: choose the template layout, the name patterns, screened or frozen, the summary outputs; OK.
  4. Open the new layouts / restore the layer states; read the summary and the CSV.

Options

  • Screening: gray color override + transparency in the phase layout's viewports and in the layer state, or frozen (hidden).
  • Layer map: a layer mapped to a phase belongs to it regardless of stamps; unmapped layers follow their entities' stamps; a layer with no phase is shared and stays visible in every phase.
  • Names: layout and layer state patterns with <phase> and <template>.
  • Clear: removes every phase stamp (layouts and states made earlier are left).

Watch out for

  • Screening works per LAYER: entities of two phases on one layer cannot be screened apart - the census turns such layers orange; map the layer to one phase or split it.
  • The phase layout is a copy of the template at generation time - regenerate after the template changes.
  • Quantities are the same measures VDCQTO takes off (curve length, closed area, block count) tallied per phase - not a takeoff by item name.
