Pre-recordation plat audit: recomputes each boundary's traverse closure from the rounded table values against a 1:10,000 standard, then audits COGO point numbers, flags probable N/E transpositions, and scans text for wrong entity names and a missing grid-factor note.
Recomputed traverse leg (rounded)
Point of beginning
Misclosure / ERROR
N/E transposition suspect
Text scan
What it does
- Closure from rounded values: rounds each leg's azimuth to whole seconds and distance to
0.01'(curves use their chord), re-sums the vectors, reports misclosure + precision ratio per picked boundary, the drawn parcel always closes, so raw geometry proves nothing. - Boundary pick: host or xref parcel(s); Enter skips the closure check and still runs the point/text audits.
- Point ranges: flags COGO numbers outside the office's allowed ranges (e.g. control 1–99, boundary 100–499).
- N/E transposition: ERROR when a point fits the swapped pattern decisively, only on clear state-plane magnitudes; silent on local/assumed coordinates.
- Text scans: wrong entity name (the NCBELS
LLC-vs-PLLCtrap) and a missing grid/combined-factor note. - Read-only: the audit never modifies the drawing.
Settings & outputs
- Closure: minimum ratio (default 1:10,000), bearing rounding in seconds, distance rounding in ft.
- Point ranges: allowed ranges like
100-499, 1000-1999; blank skips that audit. - Text scans: wrong-entity-name list (blank skips) and the grid-factor-note requirement; token list in
settings.json. - Persisted at
%APPDATA%\VDC\PlatQc\settings.json(overrideVDC_PLATQC_SETTINGS). - Findings on the palette (double-click zooms) +
<drawing> - Plat QC.csv. - Not covered (check by eye): bearing/distance label completeness, curve-table completeness, monument & certificate blocks.
Dialog

VDCPLATQCWhen to use it
- Before every plat goes out for review or recording.
- QC-ing a survey draft: point numbering, N/E keying, and the boilerplate notes.
How to run it
- Run VDCPLATQC; set the closure standard, table rounding, point ranges, and text scans; click OK.
- Pick the boundary parcel(s) for the closure check - or press Enter to run just the point/text audits.
- Work the palette (double-click zooms); the CSV lands next to the drawing.
Options
- Closure: minimum ratio (default 1:10,000), bearing rounding in seconds, distance rounding in ft.
- Point ranges: allowed point-number ranges like '100-499, 1000-1999'; blank skips the audit.
- Text scans: wrong-entity-name list (blank skips) and the grid-factor-note requirement.
Watch out for
- The closure check uses the ROUNDED values on purpose - coarser table rounding can fail a geometrically perfect boundary.
- The N/E transposition heuristic stays silent on local/assumed coordinates - it needs state-plane magnitudes.
- NOT covered: bearing/distance label completeness, curve-table completeness, monument/cert blocks - check those by eye.
